AI has made answers instant—but has it made us smarter?
When code can be generated in seconds, résumés can be written by machines and algorithms can predict what we might buy next, the real competitive advantage may no longer be access to technology. It may be the ability to think without depending on it.

This conversation with Prabhas Jha explores that uncomfortable gap between having information and having a skill. Today’s students and young professionals have access to AI, ChatGPT, online courses and more learning resources than any generation before them. Yet the workplace still asks an old-fashioned question: Can you actually solve the problem when nobody is giving you the answer? That question becomes especially important in software development, technical interviews and an employment market increasingly shaped by automation.

But this is not an anti-AI conversation. It is about using technology without surrendering judgment to it. AI can accelerate research, coding, marketing and productivity; what it cannot automatically give someone is curiosity, practical experience or the instinct developed by repeatedly getting things wrong and figuring out why. Prabhas’s own professional journey gives this debate an unusual perspective—his career has crossed IT, software development, digital marketing and the international diamond jewellery business, rather than staying inside a single industry.

The business side of the conversation reveals another transformation happening quietly around us. Marketing is moving away from simply showing the same advertisement to millions of people. Search behaviour, interests and digital signals increasingly determine what products reach which consumers. For marketers, that means unprecedented precision. For consumers, it raises a much larger question about the invisible economy behind convenience: how much does the digital world understand about us simply from the way we use it?

And then there is an industry that appears almost untouched by the digital revolution: diamonds. It isn’t. The growth of lab-grown diamonds, changing consumer expectations, certification and technology-led production are challenging old assumptions about what makes a diamond valuable. In India, where jewellery can carry financial, cultural and emotional meaning simultaneously, that shift becomes much more than a question of luxury. The episode explores these changes through Prabhas’s professional experience in the jewellery sector.

The future may belong to people who know how to use AI—but still know what to do when AI doesn’t have the answer.
